West Warwick Police Department, RI




West Warwick Police Officers provide continuous patrols, perform a variety of community services, and acts as a first response to all incidents and emergencies. Officers conduct preliminary criminal investigations, investigate traffic collisions, and enforce federal laws, state laws, and local ordinances.  In 2019 our 51 sworn police officers responded to over 32,000 calls for service within the town’s 8 square miles, serving approximately 30,000 residents.  The department has a variety of divisions including the Patrol Division, Detective Division, Special Investigations Unit, Community Policing, School Resource Officers, and an Honor Guard.  The department is also part of West Warwick/Coventry Regional SWAT Team.  Please visit www.westwarwickpd.org for a closer look at our agency.



In order to be eligible for the testing process, applicants must:

  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be at least 21 years of age by July 23, 2021
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess a high school diploma or have obtained a General Equivalency Diploma
  • Have earned  at least thirty (30) college credits from an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education by July 23, 2021 OR
  • Served at least one (1) year of active or reserve military duty by July 23, 2021
  • Be of good moral character




  • Salary earned while attending police academy: $948.47/week
  • Salary earned after academy graduation & during 11-week Field Training Program: $1,007.75/week
  • Salary earned for remainder of the first year of probationary status: $1,067.03/week
  • Patrol Officer Salary after 1 year of probation: $1,185.59/week
  • 14 Paid Holidays

  • Annual leave of 15 vacation days, 16 sick days and 4 personal days upon completion of probation
