Summary
This is a position with the primary purpose of the operation of motorized equipment and trucks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads, rights of way, roadway structures.

Major Duties
The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Responsible for the operation of motorized heavy equipment, including loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks
- Responsible for cleaning and greasing equipment
- Responsible for preventive management of all equipment
- Responsible for moving heavy equipment to construction sites
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of road crew and traveling public
- Responsible for the removal of trash and animals from the roadways
- Responsible for unclogging driveway drainage pipes and fixing potholes and other roadway issues
- Responsible for clipping roadway shoulders and side of the road
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Senior Equipment Operator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
- Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, and maintain an effective relationship with local officials, county personnel, employees, and the general public
- Ability to be resourceful and ask questions or seek direction from the appropriate sources when needed
- Knowledge of the operation of heavy equipment, including the operation of a backhoes, bulldozers, lowboys, and loaders
Training and/or Experience Needed
High school diploma or GED and two years of skilled experience and specialized vocational training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Possess a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s license
Supervisory Control and Responsibilities
None
Travel
Travel is required within Peach County and regionally as well as being occasionally required for various locations throughout the state for meetings, conferences, and training.

Language Skills
Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, coworkers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written form in a professional manner in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and/or provide service. In addition, this position requires extensive contact with other employees, the general public, and public officials, often involving problem-solving circumstances.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret and understand a variety of forms, reports, manuals, regulations, and other means of instruction and guidance.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position requires medium-to-heavy demands with intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, walking, use of tools or equipment requiring a high level of dexterity, and occasional lifting of medium to heavy weight objects. Additionally, the physical demands required the need to distinguish between shades of colors.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work environment is primarily performed outdoors in a very noisy place with travel from site to site entailing exposure to machinery with moving parts and sharp tools. and occasional cold, heat, or inclement weather. In addition, the work requires the operation of vibrating equipment and requires the use of protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, masks, etc.
