Major Duties
The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Responsible for picking up and transporting of materials, supplies, and tools to the worksite.
- Responsible for hauling gravel and other road construction material
- Responsible for the operation of heavy construction equipment used in road maintenance and repair, including blading dirt roads maintained by the county
- Responsible for repair and maintenance of ditches, potholes, and county rights of way
- Responsible for the maintenance of assigned equipment
- Responsible for the maintenance and repair of street signs
- Responsible for flagging and directing traffic in a safe manner, per direction of Crew Leader
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Heavy Equipment Operator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
- Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, and maintain an effective relationship with local officials, county personnel, employees, and the general public
- Ability to be resourceful and ask questions or seek direction from the appropriate sources when needed
- Knowledge of the operation of heavy equipment, including the operation of a backhoes, bulldozers, lowboys, chainsaws, mini-excavators, dump trucks and loaders
Training and/or Experience Needed
High school diploma or GED and one year of skilled experience and specialized vocational training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Possess a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s license
- Possess a Valid Commercial driver’s license
