PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION 

The purpose of this classification is to provide assistance to victims and witnesses of crime. This position is responsible for coordinating the Victim Witness Assistance Program for the county. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for the classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

This is a full-time position (40 hours) in the District Attorney's Office. 

  • This position interacts and works directly with the public, law enforcement, and with victims and witnesses of crimes. Assists in the public education campaign of the office. Provides victims with information regarding rights and responsibilities; explains legal procedures and general information about the criminal justice process to the public and victims and witnesses, and keeps victims and witnesses updated throughout the criminal justice process. Accompanies victims to court. Verifies need for restitution. This position also deals with law enforcement, persons charged with criminal offenses and their attorneys on a regular basis and must carry on such interaction in a professional and pleasant manner and must exercise extreme confidentiality with any information coming in and out of the office. Collaborates with other agencies/victim service providers to assist victims and witnesses. This position trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of victim advocates. Performs related work as assigned.
  • Operates a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions of the job to include telephone, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other system software.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

    High School or GED equivalent with a minimum of 5 years' work experience performing high level administrative support duties, 3 of which were in a legal or court setting.  

    Proven knowledge of legal procedures, forms, documents, terminology, business letter writing, general office procedures, and correct grammar/spelling.  

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.  

    Handle confidential materials with discretion, research/compile data, establish communication and maintain working relationship with others, work independently, learn/understand new office procedures, prepare technical data. 

    Have the ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization as well as in public.  

    Demonstrate the ability to achieve results on a timely basis.  

    Demonstrate strong communication skills.
