Position Summary
The Information Technology Staff provides professional technical support to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office by monitoring and responding to the needs of computer users across multiple disciplines, including Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire Services, and Animal Control. This position installs, configures, and troubleshoots hardware, software, printers, cellular devices, and IP-based technologies while ensuring system integrity and compliance with Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and NIST standards. Responsibilities include managing user accounts and permissions, maintaining network and device connectivity, supporting video management and access control systems, and safeguarding agency data and assets. The IT Staff communicates effectively with users and vendors, delivers excellent customer service, and upholds confidentiality, integrity, and availability in all aspects of information technology operations.
Qualifications
Level I:
- Education – High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience – Two (2) years’ experience in a related field
- *Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.
- Valid Driver License
- Certifications – Comptia A+ and/or Comptia Network +
Level II:
- Education – Associate degree in a related field
- Experience – Three (3) years’ experience in a related field
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.
- Valid Driver License
Essential Job Functions

- Regular and prompt job attendance.
- Required to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems certification.
- Confidentiality, integrity, and availability of public safety information.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot issues with physical and virtual computers.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot issues with VOIP phones.
- Troubleshoot issues surrounding low voltage wire (CAT 5/5e/6/6a, etc.).
- Perform cable management duties.
- Perform imaging and recovery operations on computers.
- Perform hardware component replacements on computers.
- Perform printer installations and troubleshoot printing issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve user connectivity issues.
- Add, configure, and edit user and computer accounts in Active Directory.
- Add, configure, and edit printers on print servers.
- Add, configure, and edit user accounts in access control systems.
- Add, configure, edit, and troubleshoot video management system.
- Perform duties associated with video surveillance and body camera systems.
- Mitigate and respond to threats reported by threat detection systems and monitoring services.
- Properly install, configure and troubleshoot issues relating to varying report management systems.
- Safeguarding of agency intellectual property stored by cloud providers.
- Maintenance and accountability of enterprise cellular accounts.
- Communicate and coordinate with vendor(s) relating to agency assets.
- Provide support for agency applications accessed by government agencies, as directed through the chain of command.
- Ensures all agency IT assets and their configurations are maintained according to all applicable CJIS policies and NIST standards.
- Enforces user compliance with CJIS policies through user controls, education, and training.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot highly technical and complex computing issues.

- Ability to analyze, document, and improve workflows.
- Capability to collect, interpret, and present technical or operational data.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, general orders, and directives, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.

Physical Requirements
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move computer equipment, peripherals, and related hardware as required.
- Ability to bend, kneel, or crawl to access wiring and equipment installations.
- Sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to install, repair, and operate computer systems and components.
- Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while performing technical duties or user support activities.
- Ability to raise, climb, and work while on a ladder
