Full Time Certified Officers in the State of New Hampshire or equivalent out-of-state police academy are eligible for a $15,000 sign on bonus!

The Stratham Police Department operates 24/7 and serves a population of approximately 8,000 residents within a 16 square mile area. Policing duties include emergency response, traffic enforcement, investigations, community outreach, preventative patrol, report writing and other services as needed. The Department currently has 11 full-time officers, 1 part-time positions, Animal Control Officer, 1 Part-Time Police Prosecutor, and FT Administrative Assistant and 1 Administrative staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • United States citizenship
  • High school diploma or equivalent (a college degree is preferred but not required)
  • Be in good physical condition,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license,
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment
  • Possess the ability to work under extremely stressful conditions.
  • Candidates that hold a full-time police officer certificate in the State of New Hampshire or equivalent out-of-state police academy will be given preference; however, this is not a requirement.

Job Description/General Duties:

An individual holding the rank of Police Officer shall be responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations and policies specified by the Police Policy Manual. Entry-level police officers shall generally be assigned as uniformed patrol officers. Officers holding the rank of Police Officer may also be required to carry out duties and responsibilities for any of the following assignments within the department, depending on their experience and training:

Prosecutor, Field Training Officer, D.A.R.E Officer, Firearms Instructor, Physical Fitness Instructor, Crime Prevention Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Accident Investigation Specialist, Fleet Maintenance Officer.

Other duties, functions and details as required and assigned. General police duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, a number of activities necessary to ensure the stability and safety of the community.

Testing Requirements

  • Applicants may be required to successfully pass a written test (waived for full-time certified candidates)
  • a fitness test
  • an oral interview
  • a psychological examination
  • a polygraph examination
  • a medical examination including a drug screen
  • All applicants will be required to pass a thorough background investigation and full or modified field training program based on previous experience.
