Closter Police Department

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

**College education and/or prior law enforcement experience is preferred but not required.**

• Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey at the time of appointment.
• Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
• Possess an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
• In lieu of a college degree, candidates must possess a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) certification, or be eligible for a PTC waiver at the time of appointment.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, with the maximum age established by law or regulation.
• Must be physically sound and in good health.
• Must be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any criminal offense or offense that reflects negatively on the applicant’s moral character.
  
  

Hiring Process
Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process may be required to complete the following:

• Application review
• Oral interview
• Background investigation
• Medical examination
• Psychological evaluation
• Drug screening
  Successful candidates must also meet all requirements established by the New Jersey Police Training Commission.
