Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Program/Classification Manager the Intake Specialist’s primary role involves classifying inmates upon intake to ensure proper housing and rehousing in accordance with Florida Model Jail Standards. This entails conducting inmate interviews, documenting relevant information using our risk assessment tool, and gathering data from various sources to determine appropriate program placements, including mental health, substance abuse, education, vocational training, and other offerings at Walton County Jail.


Qualifications

  • Education – High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience – 2 years related experience

*Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.

  • Certifications – Not required.
  • Preferred – None

Essential Job Functions

  • Utilizes computerized management information systems for data retrieval and entry.
  • Proficient in NCIC/FCIC systems.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret criminal histories both within and outside the state.
  • Conducts data entry for risk assessment, needs analysis, and program placement.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills for inmate management.
  • Maintains radio communication with deputies in housing modules, utilizes intercom to communicate with inmates, and handles telephone inquiries, providing information to authorized individuals.
  • Updates logs to accurately reflect inmate movements.
  • Executes all assignments within specified timeframes and budget constraints, adhering to agency policies and regulations.
  • Refers inmates to treatment and program services based on needs and risks.
  • Observes and engages with inmates across various assignments (work, housing, education).
  • Visits specialized housing units (confinement, medical, etc.) as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit up to 6 hours per day.
  • Stand up 1 hour per day.
  • Walk up to 2 hours per day.
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequently bend, reach, or twist
