General Statement of Job
The LEO/EMS Purchasing Clerk is responsible for ordering, maintaining, and issuing supplies for Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, the Purchasing Clerk will perform courier duties including, but not limited to, mail pickup/delivery and vehicle movements. The member will successfully complete all assignments and/or special projects to specifications as directed and within the specified time frame, budgetary requirements (if applicable), and applicable agency policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be able to operate computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
- Must be able to multi-task.
- Must have the ability and fortitude to learn medical terminology.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Essential Job Functions

- Regular and prompt job attendance.
- Reviews purchase requisition forms to ensure they are properly completed and for an appropriate and justifiable need.
- Prepares/verifies, and/or submits purchase requisitions for supplies/equipment, ensuring all required information is accurate, complete, and submitted to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
- Will promptly issue appropriate equipment and/or supplies as per authorized request, maintaining and updating the inventory log.
- Must maintain a sufficient inventory of required medical supplies, items, and equipment in all supply rooms to ensure availability as needed.
- Establishes and accurately updates vendor files to reflect any activity or changes.
- Conducts adequate research to determine the optimum supplier in terms of price, quality, and delivery.
- Dispose of expired medications, according to agency policy, after catalog is taken and recorded.
- Assists the EMS/Fire Rescue Logistics section, including forecasting and rotating medical supplies.
- Sorts mail, parcels, and other materials according to destination addresses.
- Breaks down and repackages bulk quantities of both U.S. mail and inter-office mail for appropriate distribution.
- Picks up and delivers at predetermined locations based on a set schedule, and in accordance with WCSO policy and agreements with other affiliated organizations.
- Must be able to lift 25lbs consistently.
- Must be able to drive vehicles of varying sizes distances of 150 miles with ease.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires the ability to multitask and follow instructions with efficiency and proficiency in completion of a variety of assigned projects and tasks.
- Requires a clean driving record and the ability to operate a vehicle.
- Requires basic computer skills, including use of MS Office applications.
- Good oral and written communication skills
Standards to Perform Job Functions

Physical Requirements: Tasks involve periodic walking and standing. Must be able to sit, stand, and bend body forward at waist. Must be able to hear and understand communications through a telephone. Must have clear vision to view computer monitor. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear; (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words); Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds; carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of records, fleet services, vehicles and equipment, specifications, and contracts.
Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking to convey or exchange information to people; includes issuing and receiving assignments, instructions, and directions. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of records, reports, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals, etc., in moderately complex technical terminology. Requires the ability to read and interpret warranties, contracts, and specifications. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in Standard English.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Requires the application of principles of influence systems and synthesis functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to issue, and follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, use decimals and calculate percentages, to determine weight; compute discount and loss, ratio and proportion.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using modern office equipment.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with frequent deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy in frequent contact with various professionals, Sheriff's Office staff, and the general public. Must be able to hear and understand communications through telephone and radio.
