Position Opening

Staff Support Administrator

Kind of Work:

This is a Full-time civilian position responsible for oversight and management of the Body Worn Camera Program and Taser Program, which includes but not limited to inventory, training, deployment, system evaluation, policy and procedure review, and maintenance of the program’s hardware and software systems. In addition, this position is responsible for the department’s training program and the development and review of department policy, as well as written updates to policy and procedure regarding “Police Reform” mandates. The person in this position will also manage the Property / Evidence Room and be responsible for data entry and edits to the Safe Tracker Property program.

Direct supervision is received from the Deputy Chief of Police.

 

Examples of Work include but are not limited to:

Body Worn Camera duties:

  • Provide administrative oversight and maintenance of the body worn camera program.
  • Assign and maintain the inventory of body worn camera equipment.
  • Assist end users with troubleshooting basic technical equipment issues.
  • Research, design and coordinate department training programs.
  • Provide routine auditing of body worn camera equipment and users to ensure compliance with policy, procedures and laws.
  • Review and redact videos and ensure release is in accordance with federal, state, and local statutes, established policies and procedures, and the Maryland Public Information Act.
  • Liaison with body worn camera provider and advise department on equipment upgrades, and any concerns or issues related to the BWC equipment.
  • Testify in court in criminal proceedings as needed.
  • Responsible for the repair and replacement of damaged, lost, or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assist personnel in the use and navigation of the BWC software to find specific video files, create copies, and share files with authorized personnel and entities.

 

Training Coordinator duties:

  • Keep current on all Mandated training topics.
  • Prepare In-Service Training classes, and extra trainings as needed.
  • Schedule In-Service dates.
  • Stay current with all House Bills and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare Lesson Plans for all training topics.
  • Report all completed training to MPCTC as appropriate.

 

Property / Evidence Manager duties:

  • Receive all Property / Evidence from officers.
  • Enter all Property / Evidence in Safe Tracker Program when moved from locker into Property Room.
  • Be responsible for all Inventory of Property / Evidence while stored, removed for testing, removed for court, removed for return, and removed for destruction.
  • Be responsible for Property Inventories and Property Audits.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Property / Evidence Room for TPD.

 

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • U.S.A Citizenship
  • High School diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years work experience in law enforcement or in a similar public or private sector position.
  • Valid vehicle operator’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to effectively organize work, determine priorities, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Possess strong and effective spoken and written communication skills including the ability to compile and organize comprehensive data and statistical analysis, compose professional correspondence and reports, and records information accurately.
  • Ability to testify in court and judicial proceedings.
  • Experience in working with audio/video software editing and redacting both audio and video.
  • Certified Armorer for Glock handguns, Remington 870 shotguns and AR-15 rifles.
  • Certified Instructor with MPCTC.

 

The Town of Thurmont is a drug-free work environment and prospective employees must pass a pre-employment drug test and background investigation. Starting salary is $50,000.00 annually.
