Part time patrol officer

The West Brookfield Police Department is accepting application for part time patrol officer.  Interested candidates, that meet the minimum qualifications, are urged to apply.  All fees paid are non-refundable.  The following are the minimum qualifications to be considered for employment with the West Brookfield Police Department as a part time patrol officer:

  • Be a US citizen (birth/naturalized)
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Possess a high school diploma, or GED.
  • Be a graduate of an MPTC certified Reserve Intermittent Academy, Basic Recruit Academy, or Special State Police Officer (SSPO) academy.
  • Candidates MAY NOT have a felony conviction, or a conviction for a misdemeanor that would disqualify them from having a Massachusetts License to Carry.
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain a Massachusetts Class “A” License to Carry Firearms.
  • Live with in fifteen (15) miles of the town of West Brookfield (closest border to closest border).
  • Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a West Brookfield Police Officer.

Candidates are advised that simply meeting the minimum qualifications above does not guarantee an offer of employment.  A successful candidate will be required to pass all phases of the hiring process to be considered. 

Recruitment Process:

We welcome you to apply for the position of part time patrolman with the town of West Brookfield.  Applicants will be required to successfully complete each step in the recruitment process to be considered for employment as a part time police officer.  The recruitment process includes, but is not necessarily limited to:

Interview panel:

Interview panels are convened, subject to the needs of the department.  Candidates invited to an interview panel will be given advanced notice of the day, date, and time of their interview.  Any special instructions (such as a potential writing assignment) will be given at the time of the notice.

Conditional Offer of Employment:

The successful candidate(s) identified in the interview process will be made a conditional offer of employment as a part time patrol officer, for the town of West Brookfield.  If accepted, the candidate will be subject to a background check (which will include, but is not limited to a criminal records check, and driver history check), medical, and psychological evaluation. 

Upon successful completion of this phase, the candidate will be brought to the board of selectmen to be appointed as a probationary part time patrolman.  The probation period is one year.  One of the conditions of completing probation is the successful completion of the field training program.
