Job Summary
Performs a combination of manual, unskilled and semi-skilled labor for assigned recycling services. Provides maintenance to the convenience center. Drives an assigned sanitation vehicle; picks up recyclable cardboard from designated locations; and transports and bales cardboard for recycling. Separates co-mingled recycled materials; sort materials into appropriate storage containers; and transports recyclables to contracted vendor. Maintains recycling centers; cleans containers; and picks up and removes trash and debris. Uses a variety of equipment and tools to include forklifts, garbage trucks, balers, rakes, trucks, pallet jacks, grounds keeping equipment and hand trucks; obtains needed materials, tools and supplies; and cleans, washes and performs preventive maintenance on equipment and tools. Follows safety practices and wears protective gear. Assists other crews and departments with maintenance services as assigned; performs general maintenance and/or grounds keeping activities for County buildings and properties. Handles the motor oil recycling duties which are required for the Phase 2 Stormwater Report. Maintains and performs minor repairs on all mechanical equipment. Oversees the community service workers. Loads tractor trailers with bailed recycled cardboard and magazines for Mill Direct Pick-up. Schedules trips to vendors for recyclable pick-ups and ensures all pick-ups are completed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving waste collection or equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
