HIGHSPIRE POLICE DEPARTMENT
IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR
FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICERS
General Duties:
Protecting people and property, vehicle, bicycle and foot patrols, respond to calls, enforce criminal and traffic laws, make arrests, issue citations, testify in court cases, conduct traffic stops, respond to domestic disturbances, provide first aid until paramedics arrive, writing reports, and filling out forms, using a computer.

- Population: 2,399 (2010 Census)
- The Highspire Police Department is compiling an eligibility list to fill vacancies due to a number of officers retiring.
- Call volume – 2019 had 5,727 calls for service
- Highspire Borough was established in 1814 and is situated on the East bank of the Susquehanna River. It is bordered by Steelton Borough and the Pennsylvania Turnpike to the North and Lower Swatara Township to the East and South.
- Number of Officers: 5 Full-time & 8 Part-time
Minimum Qualifications:

- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- High School Diploma or GED
- Good physical and mental health
- Act-120 MPOETC certified

- Apply for and successfully complete the Dauphin County Consortium physical fitness and written tests
Preliminary Background Interview and Application Review
- Applicants selected for further review will be scheduled for an interview and then an oral board examination.
Oral Board:
- Applicants selected for further review will be invited to an oral board examination at a date and time to be announced.
Further Testing:
- Including but not limited to a physical, psychological, polygraph and an intensive background investigation.
MPOETC (Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission) PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST:
- Candidates who are offered conditional employment shall meet the MPOETC physical fitness requirements for entrance into the Police Academy.
