RIDGEFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
SLEO CLASS III
The Ridgefield Police Department is seeking professional, qualified applicants for the position of Class III Special Police Officer,. The Class III Special Police Officer shall conduct School Safety and Security duties within the Ridgefield Schools.
Each appointment as a Class III Special Police Officer shall be for a part-time position, which shall terminate upon the passage of one calendar year from the date of each appointment.
No Borough paid health insurance, dental insurance, or prescription benefits will be made available to Class III Special Police Officers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicant must be a retired law enforcement officer who is less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full time officer in any municipality or county of this state or as a sworn member of the New Jersey State Police and was separated from that prior service in good standing within 3 years of appointment to this position.
- Applicant must provide a letter of good standing from the Chief of Police/Officer in Command of the agency they retired from, including their dates of employment, type of retirement and good standing status.
- Applicant must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certificate or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification.
- Applicant must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Training Commission.
- Applicant must be a resident of the State of New Jersey and possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
- Applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently and must possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Applicant must be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty or which would make him/her unfit to perform the duties of the position.
- Applicant must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, psychological examination, drug screening examination and oral interview.
- Applicant must be N.J. School Resource Officer certified within the first year of employment.
The salary for the Class III Special Police Officer shall be $40,000 per school year and he/she shall work a schedule up to 37.5 hours during a 5 day week for a maximum of 180 days. A "work day" shall consist of 8 hours, inclusive of an unpaid 30 minute break which shall be taken at a time authorized by the Board of Education.
The Class III Special Police Officer shall only work when school is in session and/or in accordance with a schedule to be determined by the Board of Education. Although announcing the position at this time, successful candidates will begin employment immediately.
Preference may be given to retired officers who previously served in a capacity as a School Resource Officer, D.A.R.E or L.E.A.D Officer.
