Job Title: Jail Maintenance Worker
Pay Range: $33,770 - $48,274 annually (based on experience)
Closing Date: September 22, 2021 at 5:00 pm CST
The following is an INTERNAL advertisement for a Jail Maintenance Worker. General Statement of Job –
This is a non-sworn position that performs semi-skilled construction, modification, maintenance and repair work at the Walton County Jail or any other Sheriff’s facility as tasked. This position will supervise and direct jail trustees in the proper performance of their daily tasks while maintaining the security, safety and control of the inmates/offenders assigned to their work detail. Work is performed under the direction of the Support Bureau Lieutenant.
Qualifications –
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age with good communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to use various hand and power tools.
- Experience in electrical trouble shooting.
- Experience in plumbing repair.
- Experience in painting and drywall.
- Experience in maintaining and repairing HVAC systems is preferred.
Essential Job Functions –
- Complete tasks assigned by the Support Lieutenant
- Performing routine maintenance and applying preventative maintenance measures
- Maintaining HVAC equipment
- Repairing potential safety hazards to prevent injuries
- Repairing broken or leaking plumbing fixtures
Required Skills –
Ability to:
- Supervise inmates.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate assignments.
- Self-assign tasks and set schedules for recurring tasks.
- Communicate effectively.
- Use office computer applications.
- Work under stressful conditions.
- Deal with difficult individuals in a correctional setting.
Standards to Perform Job Functions –
Physical Requirements:
- Sit up to 2 hours per day
- Stand up 6 hour per day
- Walk up 4 hours per day
- Frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
- Occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.
- Climb ladders, frequently bend and crawl into awkward spaces, reach and or twist.
Hiring Process –
Applicants will be required to successfully complete:
- • Background investigation which includes, but is not limited to: criminal history, driving history, credit check, previous employment verification. The background waiver MUST BE SIGNED AND NOTARIZED.

• Panel Interview
• Pre-employment Drug Screen (including nicotine panel)
