Forest Heights Police Department, MD JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Police Corporal (Supervisory)

Salary: $53,045.00

Examples of Duties:

  • Conducts assigned patrols, whether on foot or by vehicle, throughout the City for the purpose of preventing, detecting or responding to criminal acts and observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order.
  • Answers calls from citizens for assistance or protection of their life and property.
  • Conducts investigations and gathers evidence in cooperation with other law enforcement personnel and the State's Attorney's Office in connection with incidents of criminal activities.
  • Coordinates crime scene investigations and manages resources at the scene of a crime; interviews and counsel’s victims; catalogues, packages, and transports evidence to the lab for examination; and locates and interviews possible witnesses.
  • Writes reports and citations.
  • Assist officers in making arrests of persons charged or suspected of criminal activities
  • Supervise officers in an assigned shift or patrol group.
  • Approve reports from officers in a assigned patrol group or shift.
  • Makes inspections of assigned vehicle and equipment daily and reports any defects.
  • Maintains logs and records of assigned personnel.
  • Assists in writing memorandums, directives and other administrative duties assigned by Chief of Police, and/or other staff.
  • Participate in in-service and special training programs as assigned.
  • Performs various duties and tasks related to special assignments as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Chief of Police.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and must have reached his or her 21st birthday on the Date on which an Application is filed.
  • Applicants must have 5 years of experience as a sworn Law Enforcement officer for a Full-service Law Enforcement agency recognized by the standard set by Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
  • Must be previously or currently certified by a SWORN Law Enforcement agency.
  • Applicant must have left pervious agency in GOOD standing.
  • Must have at least 5 years or more in Supervisory experience in a Sworn Law Enforcement compacity
  • Satisfactory completion of Background phase including: Oral Board Interview, Psychological, Computer voice stress analysis, or a truth verification test, and background investigation.

Education:

Satisfactory completion of High School coursework and/or GED equivalency. Preferred Education: Completed criminal justice coursework and 60 college credits.

  • Supervisory Leadership or First line supervisor Law enforcement coursework
  • General knowledge of Maryland Laws and Federal statues pertain to Law enforcement Duties

Skills & Abilities:

  • A strong ability to express one's self both verbally and in writing
  • Strong public speaking and leadership skills abilities
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively in difficult situations.
  • Ability to respect the rights, property and privacy of others while displaying a professional image at all times.
  • Ability to investigate incidents or unusual occurrences, providing appropriate follow-up and documentation.
