Job Title: Animal Services Officer
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary: The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing local and state laws related to the care and control of animals. This role involves responding to calls about stray, injured, or dangerous animals, investigating cases of animal cruelty, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. Along with helping and keeping the facility a clean and safe working environment. Assist with temperament testing and help maintain social media as needed. Provide basic medical care for animals as needed. Help with temperament testing and social media.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to and investigate complaints regarding stray, injured, or dangerous animals
· Capture and transport animals to shelters or veterinary facilities as needed
· Investigate cases of animal cruelty and neglect, and take appropriate enforcement actions
· Educate the public on animal control laws and responsible pet ownership
· Maintain accurate records of all activities, including reports of incidents and investigations
· Work closely with local law enforcement, veterinarians, and animal shelters
· Provide care for animals in custody, including feeding, cleaning, and basic medical care
· Assist in the adoption process for unclaimed animals
· Assist the public in returning lost animals to their owners
· Work some holiday weekends and share on-call duties with other officers
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal science or a related field is a plus
· Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
· Experience working with animals, preferably in a control or enforcement capacity
· Knowledge of local and state animal control laws and regulations
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to handle stressful situations and make quick decisions
· Physical ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments
· Basic computer skills and programs.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
· May involve exposure to aggressive or frightened animals
· Requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals up to 100 pounds plus
· Must be available to work some holidays, weekends and participate in an on-call rotation
