JOB SUMMARY:

Detention Deputies are often referred to as Correctional Officers. At Walton County Sheriff's Office, these sworn members work directly with inmates to maintain order and provide for the security, care, and direct supervision of inmates in housing units, at meals, during recreation, on work assignments, and during all other phases of activity in a correctional facility. WCSO Jail requires staffing on a 24/7 basis, which requires employees to work shift work; working weekends and holidays is often required. At WCSO, Detention Deputies work 12-hour shifts in secure areas, allowing them to be off every other weekend. Shift assignments are based on the needs of the agency.
